Desperate - Chapter 4

Romans 7:19-20
For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.  But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.

Romans 8:1-4
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.  For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

I think often as a Mom, it is so easy to look at our children and expect them to be perfect.  That is why, when they are putting up a temper tantrum and disobeying what you say over and over again, it can get frustrating to say the least.

This past week, I was reading through the book Desperate which talked on this subject.  While talking with her friends, the author of this book mentioned her friend's comment one day while she was complaining about how her children were not listening.  This reply was simple yet hard hitting:
Honey at what age did you stop sinning?  Because that is the age our children will stop sinning

Ouch... hurts right?

I pray that I can be an example to Peyton and any future children we may have, but also be aware of the fact that they are born sinners, just as I am a born sinner.  It is in their blood to sin.

So I put it out there...
Do you find yourself setting unrealistic standards for your children?
How do you teach them to walk "according to the Spirit". rather than "according to the flesh"?
