Ashlynn's Birth Story- Recovery

So we are now 1 month into the life of our beautiful second daughter, but alongside that we are 1 month into my recovery.

It's funny the things you forget about recovery from a C-section from the last time.
For the most part, I was up and about my normal self within a few days, but I found that there were a few things that I definitely did not miss about the recovery:

  • Gas pains (specifically in the shoulder)-- these were one of the worst parts of the recovery- having a stabbing pain (in my case in my right shoulder most of the time) and nothing you could honestly do about it... massaging it only helped to a certain point and you could only take the medicine so often...
  • The first time you got up to walk-- For me, I had my c-section at 12:00 on Saturday and was up for my first time around 10 am the next morning--   you feel absolutely helpless as you struggle to get your feet off the bed and push upwards
  • Not being able to get the baby from the bassinet yourself-- at the hospital, we have a bassinet for the babies directly beside our bed... unfortunately it is at an awkward height... I couldn't actually reach the baby and had to ask somebody everytime I wanted her out
  • Once home (where there aren't those beautiful beds that go up and down with a push of a button), I forgot that if I lay down-- I'm not getting back up without help.... the first night I tried so hard to get up myself when I heard Ashlynn crying so Wes could sleep a bit... I ended up crying myself after 20 minutes of moaning and groaning trying different ways to get past the horizontal body position
Now almost 5 weeks post c-section-- I can say I almost feel completely normal again-  yes, there are days , but for the most part it's not too bad.  The one thing I don't think I will ever have feeling along my incision line (which has now been cut twice)-- if I touch it I can't even really feel it... it's strange.

That being said- even after the c sections I have had, they are worth it for the 2 beautiful girls I have now.
